It is good to know that, no matter how healthy this sweet fruit is, it also contains quite a lot of sugar. That’s why it’s best to eat this delicious fruit in moderation. Eating one big mango does mean you get your recommended daily dose of vitamin C, though, which is a big advantage.
A kiwifruit is a bit smaller than a lot of other fruits, of course, but that also means it contains a lot fewer calories. One kiwi contains 46 calories on average. Cherries aren’t just absolutely delicious, they’re also very healthy! One serving of cherries contains 84 calories on average. Multiple studies have shown that cherries are good for your heart. Plus, eating cherries diminishes the chance of getting cancer, because of the perillyl alcohol they contain.
A big grapefruit only contains 78 calories on average. Plus, the tasty, bitter fruit is full of vitamins C, B1 and A and rich in potassium. Enough reasons to buy a grapefruit on your next visit to the supermarket!
One of the tastiest and most popular fruits (especially in summer) is the blueberry. One serving of blueberries contains 80 calories on average. Besides that, the blueberry contains a lot of fibres, vitamin C and vitamin K. They’re also full of antioxidants that protect our bodies against outside influences. Bacteria have more trouble entering our bodies which means we’ll get ill less quickly.
The blueberry isn’t the only healthy berry. Blackberries are also super healthy for you. This berry even contains fewer calories than the blueberry, at 74 calories per serving. Just like the blueberry, the blackberry is full of fibres which means you’ll feel full more quickly.
The banana is in the top 3 of healthiest fruits! Bananas contain a lot of potassium. Potassium plays an important role in heart and muscle activity. That’s why it’s good to eat a banana before or after exercising. Bananas contain lots more than just potassium, though. They also contain vitamins B3, B6, A and C as well as magnesium, phosphorus, iron, tryptophan and selenium.
Apricots come in at an amazing second place. When you eat three apricots, you only consume 51 calories on average. Apricots contain a very special substance that gets converted into vitamin A. If you eat three apricots, you’ve already had 35 per cent of your recommended daily intake of vitamins.
And now it’s time for number one: apples! You might not have expected a simple apple to be at number one, but it’s definitely earned its place. An apple of average size contains about 80 calories and 3 grams of fibres. A ripe apple contains vitamins B1, B2, B6, C and E. The apple also contains a variety of sugars like dextrose, fructose and saccharose. Last but not least, apples contain a number of minerals like calcium, magnesium and potassium. Plenty of reasons to go out and buy a large bag of apples!
